This particular six-week program is referred to as having a split option format because the didactic and clinical instruction are provided in different locations. Students first complete six weeks of didactic instruction on the Emory campus in combination with students from the onsite traditional program. When all didactic requirements have been met, students return home and are allowed three months to complete the clinical and project requirements in their own geographic area, graduating from the program when all didactic and clinical requirements have been fulfilled — 120 hours of offsite clinical preceptorship are required. In the event of unexpected illness or other complications, students may request a time extension to complete these requirements. Students must obtain qualified and approved preceptors for the clinical component; we will be glad to assist in identifying potential preceptors. Please check our listing of off-site clinical agencies. To assist you in choosing preceptors that are reliable, qualified, and appropriate to your situation and expectations, we have provided two articles that explicate the preceptorship process. In order to assist prospective students in selecting the course of study that best meets their particular needs and situation, the faculty have identified the advantages and disadvantages of each of the three program types. For the split option program, the advantages are:
