Faculty of the division of trauma/surgical critical care are the attending staff of the Trauma Center, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and Burn Unit of Grady Memorial Hospital, where surgery residents spend approximately 40 percent of their time. Based in downtown Atlanta, Grady is one of the largest public hospitals in the Southeast and the largest hospital in Georgia.

The research interests of division faculty include the use of ultrasound in trauma settings; modes of ventilatory support; management of complex wound complications; and the development of research databases on injured pregnant patients, pelvic fractures and associated complications, blunt ruptured aorta, and lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

In addition to the rotations that general surgery, emergency medicine and oral surgery residents undertake in the trauma service, the division offers a two-year trauma fellowship/surgical critical care residency to board-eligible surgeons that encompasses one year in trauma and one year in an ACGME-approved surgical critical care residency. Effective 10/22/09, the ACGME continued the residency's accreditation to 10/2014.
