Dr. Rozycki has directed the division of trauma/surgical critical care since 1994. In addition to her qualifications in general surgery, trauma and surgical critical care, she is a registered diagnostic medical sonographer. Her major research interest is the surgeon's use of ultrasound in the evaluation of patients with acute surgical problems, a focus she has developed into multiple courses for the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Rozycki was listed in the 2008 edition of "Guide to America's Top Surgeons," serves as a representative to the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons for the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma; is president of the Western Trauma Association; and is on the editorial boards of Surgery News and The Journal of Trauma. |

Prior to coming to Emory in July 2009, Dr. Buchman was the director of Acute and Critical Care Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. He directs the Emory Center for Critical Care (ECCC), which is integrating ICUs throughout Emory Healthcare, bringing together clinicians and investigators from diverse disciplines to conduct research to define best clinical practices and inform public health policy. The center also houses Emory's training programs in critical care anesthesiology, surgical critical care, and pulmonary/medical critical care. Plans are being developed to sponsor critical care training for hospitalists, emergency medicine physicians, and neurologists.

Dr. Dente directs the American College of Surgeons' resident ultrasound and ATLS courses. His research interests include retrospective and prospective
studies on surgeon performed ultrasound in the trauma setting and injuries
to the intraperitoneal colon. In 2008, he implemented and prospectively studied a new massive transfusion protocol in Grady's trauma center in association with Grady's anesthesia department and its blood bank. |

Walter L. Ingram, MD

Dr. Ingram did his general surgery residency and fellowship in trauma/burns at Emory, after which he assumed directorship of Grady's Burn Unit in 1992. He began compiling an extensive patient database that has become a fundamental tool in his outcomes research in 1996. His clinical specialties include chemical burns, electrical burns, surgical critical care, skin grafts, and herpes donor site studies, while his research interests comprise the investigation of patient outcomes following skin replacement, the outcomes of diabetic patients with burned feet, and the investigation of skin graft donor sites infected with the herpes virus.

Dr. Macleod is actively involved in investigating outcomes, injury prevention, and capacity building in trauma/critical care internationally. She was the lead author of "Evaluation of training of surgical interns to perform brief alcohol interventions for trauma patients," published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, November 2008. Additional work stemming from this article led to Dr. Macleod being named co-medical director of a two-site, five year grant totaling $12.5 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. |

Dr. Nicholas specializes in nutritional support for the critically ill, endoscopy, hemodynamic support, management of the open abdomen, abdominal compartment syndrome, and mechanical ventilation. Shortly after arriving at Grady in 2000, he introduced a novel approach for jejunal feeding access in critically ill ICU patients and significantly expanded the resident experience in upper GI endoscopy. |

He has also received various physicians awards, including the Norman E. McSwain, Jr., PHTLS Leadership Award, given by the PreHospital Trauma Life Support Division (PHTLS) of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). |

In addition to his Emory responsibilities, Dr. Verycruysse is a major in the Medical Corps of the United States Air Force Reserve. From September 2008-January 2009, he did a tour of duty in Balad, Iraq, as chief of surgery of the 332nd United States Air Force Theater Hospital. In May 2009, Dr. Verycruysse was a finalist in the military service category of the Atlanta Business Chronicle's 2009 Health-Care Heroes Awards. |

Amy Wyrzykowski, MD

Upon finishing her trauma/surgical critical care fellowship at Emory in 2005, Dr. Wyrzykowski joined the division. She is an ultrasound faculty member of the American College of Surgeons and a certified advanced trauma life support instructor. Her clinical specialties include diagnosis and management of gastric lymphoma, management of pelvic fractures, and advanced methods of oxygenation and ventilation, and she has research interests in the diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency in the intensive care unit and the use of beta blocking agents in the management of the trauma patient. |
