Dr. Clifton completed his general surgery training at the University of California, San Francisco, where he also did two years of basic science and clinical research in the Fetal Treatment Center. He has interests in surgical oncology, complex hepatobiliary surgery, and clinical outcomes research. He is currently co-PI of a study evaluating the accuracy of MRI guided laparoscopic pull-through for imperforate anus, and the surgeon of record for an investigation of the infusion of liver cell suspension in children with urea cycle disorders. Dr. Clifton is the institutional surgical representative at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for the Childhood Liver Disease and Research Education Network (ChiLDREN), which studies biliary atresia as well as a host of other childhood liver pathologies, and co-chair of the Continuing Medical Education Committee for the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG).
