Colorectal Surgery Faculty

Division Chief

Glen Balch, MD
– Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, Department of Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine

Dr. Balch is the inaugural chief of the Emory Division of Colorectal Surgery. He received his MD degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, completed his general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, and completed surgical oncology and colorectal surgical oncology fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Before joining Emory, he was at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he directed the surgical oncology program as well as Parkland Memorial Hospital's Surgical Oncology Clinic. Prior to that he was at Feinberg School of Medicine and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Balch's specialties include surgical robotics, honed by supervising the surgical oncology robotics program at UT Southwestern for seven years, and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion (HIPEC), an innovative cancer treatment that delivers highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy directly to the abdomen, which allows for higher doses of chemotherapy than systemic chemotherapy delivery.
