Emory's Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is recognized as a regional center of excellence in the treatment or oral and maxillofacial disorders for adult and pediatric patients, from basic wisdom teeth removal to facial and jaw reconstruction. Division surgeons perform a wide variety of diagnostic, inpatient, and outpatient services at The Emory Clinic, Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Atlanta VA Medical Center, and Grady Memorial Hospital. Division residents are involved with approximately 600 major inpatient cases per year at these facilities.

Past research in the division has included studies of variations in size of titanium plates in the treatment of mandibular fractures and prospective clinical trials on endosseous dental implant performance, while current investigations involve such areas as the role of psychological factors in recovering from arthroscopy/arthroplasty for temporomandibular disorders and the development of virtual surgery programs for facial reconstruction.
