Dr. Toncred Styblo Receives Outstanding Performance Award from CoC
For the second year in a row, Dr. Toncred Styblo was recognized with a Cancer Liaison Physician (CLP) Outstanding Performance Award from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. As a Cancer Liaison, Dr. Styblo is among a national network of over 1,600 volunteer physicians responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish, maintain, and support their institution's cancer program, in Dr. Styblo's case the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
The award honors its recipients for performing beyond the scope of their required duties as liaisons between their cancer programs and the CoC by improving the quality of care delivered at a CoC-accredited facility, contributing to the accreditation status of the cancer program, exceeding CLP expectations to strengthen the cancer program, demonstrating cancer control leadership in the community, and serving as a champion and role model for other staff.
Since joining the Emory surgical faculty in 1988, Dr. Styblo has pioneered skin sparing-mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and oncoplastic breast conserving therapy. She has also been named one of America's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly 12 years in a row and has been listed in America's Top Surgeons and Atlanta Magazine's Best Doctors.
