Emory Surgery Ranked #5 in NIH Awards for 2009
As reported on the website of the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research, the Department of Surgery was ranked #5 in NIH awards for all Departments of Surgery nationwide in 2009, maintaining the ranking the Department achieved for 2008.
The ranking is based on a calculation of over $13.8 million in awards, a figure derived from direct plus indirect costs that excludes R and D contracts and ARRA awards. Blue Ridge obtained the information for the award files it posted from the NIH's Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool (RePORT).
Dr. Chris Larsen was elated by the news. "With a concerted team effort across the entire Department," he said, "our research programs have become more diversified, are increasing their connection to our clinical and educational missions, and are having a higher impact than ever before."
