Emory Surgery aspires to set the pace in American Surgery and is committed to making Emory a leading academic, clinical, and research center. We are building robust evidence-based systems of treatment, developing vibrant research teams that tightly integrate with our clinical programs and Emory's broader scientific community, and are continuously improving our performance and measuring it against the high standards we set.

As an ideal place to work and train, Emory Surgery provides an environment that fosters excellence, professional development, and personal growth, thereby attracting the best faculty, staff, and trainees. We strive to be a leader in discovery and innovation by addressing the truly unmet needs of our patients; creating a nationally recognized medical student education program fortified by diverse and varied training facilities and an outstanding faculty roster; defining new treatment paradigms, such as enhancing the integration, collaboration, and coordination with our hospitals in our operating rooms, ICUs, and care units; and translating science to clinical application and care delivery.

Since I began serving as Chair, I have come to realize that the talents and achievements of our divisions, faculty, staff, and trainees are among the most impressive Emory has to offer. On a daily basis I learn of national leadership, publications, and innovative programs in all our divisions. With our shared vision, talent, and energy, there are many more successes and milestones to come.

Sincerely,

Christian P. Larsen, MD, DPhil
