Dr. Bansal earned her MBBS at Jawarharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh, India. Her postgraduate training included a general surgery residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University, a postdoctoral research fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, a pediatric surgery clinical/research fellowship at Children's Hospital Colorado, a pediatric surgery advanced laparoscopic surgery fellowship at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver, and pediatric surgery trauma and pediatric surgery clinical fellowships at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.

Her primary clinical specialties are pediatric and thoracic surgery, gastroesophageal reflux disease, minimally invasive surgery, and thoracoscopic surgery. She has conducted multiple retrospective and prospective studies, with specific projects ranging from analysis of non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring during blood donation for developing models of early blood loss, to the development of a continuous, non-invasive, real time method for estimating and predicting intracranial hypertension in children.
