Dr. Saunders received his MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2008. His postgraduate medical training included a general surgery residency at Emory, followed by a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at Ohio State University.

His clinical specialties are endocrine surgery and malignancies of the thyroid, adrenal, and parathyroid, while his primary research interests are thyroid cancer, surgical outcomes, and quality improvement.

Since arriving at Emory, Dr. Saunders introduced bedside ultrasonography into the endocrine surgery service to enhance diagnostic abilities and efficiency.
