Biography

Dr. Sellers is associate professor of surgery in the Emory Division of Transplantation; associate medical director of LifeLink of Georgia; sits on the Board of Governors of LifeLink Foundation as vice-chair of the board's Medical Advisory Committee; and is medical advisor-elect for the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations.

He received his MD in 1988, completed a research fellowship in surgical oncology in 1993, and completed his residency in general surgery in 1995, all at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His fellowship in multi-organ transplantation was completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 1995, and he received his Master of Public Health at Emory University in 2013.

He served on UAB's faculty from 1995-2002, where he received NIH-funding to study skin cancer in renal transplant recipients, and was a faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania from 2002-2005, where he was also surgical director of renal transplantation at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. From 2007-2015, he directed the hepatobiliary service and was an abdominal transplant surgeon at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

In addition to his efforts to increase organ donation awareness and to optimize deceased organ utilization, Dr. Sellers' responsibilities at Emory include liver transplantation and treating malignancies of the liver and biliary tract, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He is currently focused on improving the efficiency of care delivery and outcomes for patients with HCC in the setting of chronic liver disease, and enacting Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives to improve healthcare outcomes, especially following hepatobiliary surgery.
