Biography

Dr. Joshua Appelstein received his MD degree at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 2008. His general surgery residency was completed at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Hempstead, NY, in 2013, after which did his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship and minimally invasive cardiac surgery fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in the Bronx.

Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Appelstein held positions at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, VA, Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY, and Montefiore Medical Center.

Dr. Appelstein works with Dr. Hakob Davtyan on the cardiothoracic surgery service at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA, and is developing programs in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and robotic coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) at the facility. The St. Francis CT surgery service is a partnership of the hospital and Emory Surgery.
