Grant Carlson MD
Overview
Dr. Carlson is one of the small number of surgeons who is fellowship trained in both plastic surgery and surgical oncology. This unique skill set allows him to treat breast cancer and the damage it can cause, and he is the only surgeon in the Atlanta, Georgia area to perform both the breast surgery to remove the tumor as well as immediate reconstruction. He is also a leading expert in microvascular surgery for head and neck cancer patients.
Dr. Carlson's studies have afforded significant improvement in the outcome of breast reconstruction for patients with breast cancer, particularly his refinement of skin sparing mastectomy in the early years of the procedure. He was one of only a handful of surgeons nationwide performing the technique, and the improvements he made to its methods as well as his outcomes research contributed to making the procedure as common as it is today.
