Biography

Dr. Felipe Maegawa specializes in general and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, particularly robotic approaches to performing these types of procedures. He is an award-winning educator of technical skills in the operating room for both medical students and surgical residents.

He received his MD degree at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Florianopolis, Brazil. His general surgery residency began at the University of Santa Catarina from 2002-2007 and was completed at the University of Arizona from 2009-2011. He completed his transplant and hepatobiliary fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2009, and received an MS in clinical research design and statistical analysis at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health in 2017.

Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Maegawa was an associate professor of surgery at the Department of Surgery of the University of Arizona; clinical director of general surgery for the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System; and site director for the general surgery residency training program at the Southern Arizona VA.
