Biography

Dr. Emmett Dean McKenzie received his MD degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Louisville. After finishing his cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1998, he joined the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor as a faculty member, advancing through Baylor's academic and clinical ranks until joining the Emory University School of Medicine and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in 2017. During his Baylor tenure, Dr. McKenzie was surgical director of the heart transplant program at Texas Children's Hospital from 2001-2007, and surgical director of Texas Children's lung transplant program from 2002-2007. He now serves as the chief of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery for Emory's division of cardiothoracic surgery, and chief of the pediatric congenital cardiothoracic surgery service at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
